Guinea sorrel (Hibiscus sabdariffa, also called Roselle) is a herbaceous plant of the Malvaceae family native to Africa and grows well in tropical areas in West Africa (Senegal, Burkina Faso, Benin, Togo, Niger, southern Mali, northern Côte d'Ivoire), Botswana, and Congo. Its flower reveals a large purple-red calyx which is used to make bissap powder and juice.
